Pied-billed Grebe, Red-footed Booby, Magnificent Frigatebird, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Snowy Egret, Little Blue Heron, Tricolored Heron, Cattle Egret, Green Heron, Black-crowned Night-Heron, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, West Indian Whistling-Duck, American Wigeon, Blue-winged Teal, Lesser Scaup, Osprey, American Kestrel, Merlin, Peregrine Falcon, Sora, Common Moorhen, American Coot, Black-bellied Plover, Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, Black-necked Stilt, Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, Willet, Spotted Sandpiper, Whimbrel, Ruddy Turnstone, Short-billed Dowitcher, Royal Tern, White-crowned Pigeon, Zenaida Dove, Common Ground-Dove, Smooth-billed Ani, Belted Kingfisher, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Caribbean Elaenia, Loggerhead Kingbird, Gray Catbird, Northern Mockingbird, Tennessee Warbler, Northern Parula, Yellow Warbler, Cape May Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler, Prairie Warbler, Vitelline Warbler, Palm Warbler, American Redstart, Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat, Bananaquit, Yellow-faced Grassquit and the Greater Antillean Grackle.

I wouldn’t go there specifically for a birding trip because, except for the red-footed boobies, most of the species can be found elsewhere. But that wasn’t the purpose of this trip, though we did make the most of the birding opportunities. My favorites were actually the U.S. species that were wintering there, such as some of the warblers. They afforded outstanding views, better than I’m used to having in the states.
